With a season with a lot of unknown variables due to COVID-19 we are finally a couple days away from Super Bowl LV. A wild ride through an exciting playoff run has landed a matchup that is very anticipated. The Kansas City Chiefs against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As many have said “The G.O.A.T vs the baby G.O.A.T”.
Let's talk about the Buccaneers season. The Buccaneers had a 11-5 record and was the fifth seed for the playoffs. For the 10th time Tom Brady has made it back to the Super Bowl but this time with a different team yet still the same goal. Traveling on the road throughout their playoff run has landed them playing the Super Bowl at home. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers definitely did not have an easy run to the Super bowl as they had to play a hard fought Washington Football team with a lot of heart, Drew Brees and the Saints at New Orleans, and Aaron Rodgers’ Packers on the frozen tundra. Yet Brady has the championship blood in his veins as in his first year in the NFC he has led the Buccaneers to their second Super Bowl appearance. It seems when Brady enters the building everyone believes that they can win and plays to their full potential. Devin White backed this up with this quote on what Brady said to him after being upset on not making the pro bowl, “He's like, 'D, there's a bigger bowl I'm chasing. We're all chasing it. C'mon.' I just thought, man, it's a blessing to hear that. I need to hear that. This thing's about us. He's still chasing those bowls in his 40s. I am just so grateful to be able to spend this time with him." This leadership and keeping the team on track is what Brady brings to the team. With that being said the Buccaneers had a wild season that they should be proud about. The addition of new players such as Antonio Brown, Rob Gronkowski, and Leonard Fournette has brought more firepower to the team. In the beginning of the season the Buccaneers had problems with their chemistry as they got humbled with a week one humiliating loss to the Saints. It was only a matter of time until they would figure out their chemistry. Tony Romo said it best, "I’m gonna make a slight guess here," Romo said. "I think there’s a better than good chance, I don’t know what that percentage is, that these two are gonna be here in Tampa [for the Super Bowl]... as they evolved this offense today.” Romo saw the potential that the Buccaneers could be after their performance against the Chiefs.
With that being said the Kansas City are in the Super Bowl for the consecutive year trying to win back to back championships. The Chiefs looked unstoppable all year with an impressive record of 14-2 and placing first seed in the AFC. As always, the Chiefs have an explosive offense which can score in a matter of seconds. Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs quarterback, had another amazing season putting up 4,740 yards, 38 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. Chiefs had an easier playoff run compared to the Buccaneers as they had a bye due to being the first seed and playing both games at home. Yet, they had their struggles with the Cleveland Browns who they faced in the divisional round. Mahomes came down with a concussion which did not look well. Chad Henne came in the game with a crucial 13 yard run and a gutsy play call by Andy Reid on fourth down to go for it to seal the game. The Chiefs would get their star quarterback in the AFC Championship as they faced a red hot Buffalo Bills. The Chiefs looked unstoppable as they rolled through the Bills putting up 38 points. With a week off to prepare the Chiefs are a scary team to play in the Super Bowl. Las Vegas agrees with this as the Chiefs are three point favorites (-3) in the Super Bowl. The current money line (win the Super Bowl) is set at -166 to the Chiefs and +140 for the Buccaneers. With that being said lets preview the big game by analyzing the previous matchup. The Chiefs won (27-24) against the Buccaneers in the same stadium that the Super Bowl is going to be played at. The Chiefs started the game on fire scoring 17 points and keeping the Buccaneers scoreless. Tyreek Hill had a freak game putting up 269 yards with 3 touchdowns. Yet the Buccaneers rallied back only allowing the Chiefs to score 7 points in the second half and had a chance to stop the Chiefs one more time to give Brady a chance to win the game. Yet the Chiefs were too much to contain as they drove down the field to ice the game. A cool fact is that within the 22,000 fans that are allowed to watch the game 7,500 fans are vaccinated health care workers. The Super Bowl is going to be an amazing game to watch and I am glad that we can sit back and watch these two powerhouses go at it after all the obstacles that the world is currently facing.
