Yesterday I had the great pleasure of being invited to the Press Box at SHI Stadium. I was representing RSBA as a member of the media. It was a truly incredible experience, and I would like to share some highlights. First, I would like to extend my sincere thank you to Head Coach Schiano; I would not have been at the game without him!
The day started at 11:30 am; I arrived at the stadium and picked up my Press Credentials, I had an “M” pass, allowing me to walk around the stadium, and I had a seat in the Press Box on the 50-yard line (see picots below). I took some awesome pictures of the stadium, walked on the field, and then headed up to the Press Box. Everyone was super friendly and helpful; I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to be doing at this time.
I made my way up to the Press Box at about 12:30, they had Jersey Mike Sandwiches for everyone, and I had a seat with my name on it. There were NFL recruiters from Miami, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Chicago, and New York in the press box. They were all very stoic as they watched the game. I got to meet some sportswriters for the local papers, and I walked past the broadcast booth and peeked my head and saw the entire crew prepping for the game. I also saw the instant replay room, which was awesome! Everyone was provided with a roster and relevant media information and stats about the game. The press box also has a personal commentator.
Although Rutgers could not pull out the victory, It was an experience that I will never forget. I hope to bring other members of RSBA to the press box next year and show them what a professional career in sports looks like.
For the Love of Sports,
Abe Wexler
President, RSBA
